The New School Project Paving the Way for KIPP NYC’s Portfolio in the Bronx
DBI Project’s recent fit-out of a 55,000-sf school for KIPP NYC at 501 Gerard Avenue marks a critical step in our ongoing support of the organization’s projects across the Bronx – a momentous initiative by KIPP NYC as it continues to provide opportunities to hundreds of young students in the area.
The new space will house KIPP NYC students in a bright, open environment while DBI Projects manages the ground-up development of the organization’s three new facilities. As owner’s representative, DBI oversaw the construction of the 501 Gerard Avenue school over a span of only eight months, successfully achieving occupancy in time to welcome students for the commencement of the 2021-2022 school term.
Anticipating the supply chain delays that have been hounding construction projects in the city over the past two years, DBI worked diligently with the KIPP NYC team, the architect 2Ki, and the contractor Nucor to source alternates, store materials on site, and otherwise ensure the project unfolded seamlessly. As a result, the classrooms, dual cafeteria and auditorium, and store-front dance room are now filled daily with students and teachers enjoying their vivid new space.
DBI is so proud to help shape the future of KIPP NYC through the expert management of their capital project and real estate portfolios. Currently, KIPP NYC serves more than 7,000 students and alumni in New York City. With the addition of these new facilities, they will be able to reach many more, cultivating rich and inspired lives through education.
