DBI Projects Celebrates the Groundbreaking of Newlab New Orleans

February 10, 2026

Principal Margot Dirks and Senior Project Manager Erin Shnier, RA attended the groundbreaking ceremony last week alongside the project team to mark the commencement of construction on Newlab’s New Orleans hub for critical technology.

Newlab New Orleans is the result of a public-private partnership between the venture platform and State and Local agencies with the stated aim of constructing critical infrastructure and an energy-focused innovation hub. The project is part of the multi-phase redevelopment of the Naval Support Activity site and will include state-of-the-art lab and R&D space. DBI Projects is proud to be leading the project management of this 30,000 square foot ground up facility.

The event featured remarks from distinguished local leaders whose support has been instrumental in advancing this transformational initiative, including Louisiana Secretary of Economic Development Susan Bonnett Bourgeois and New Orleans Mayor Helena Moreno.

“Reactivating the former Naval Support Activity site reflects how Louisiana is rethinking innovation, industry, and community,” said Secretary Bourgeois. “By embedding advanced technology development within our legacy industries, Newlab New Orleans will help new companies scale, modernize existing industries, and deliver sustained economic benefits to communities. This is Louisiana innovation — driven by purpose and anchored in partnership.”
