DBI’s Chris Tomlan On Post-Pandemic Real Estate Strategies For Academic Institutions
Last week, DBI’s Chris Tomlan was joined by Natalie Brooks (The Cooper Union), Demetrios Comodromos (Method Design), and Stephen Powers (Open Impact Real Estate) to participate in a panel discussion on post-pandemic real estate strategies for higher education institutions.
The event took place in The Cooper Union’s Civic Project Lab, a project designed by Method Design and managed by DBI in 2021. Demetrios and Stephen commenced with a presentation on current real estate and construction conditions for academic institutions and new post-pandemic design challenges. This led to a moderated discussion between Chris and Natalie, further delving into details of The Cooper Union’s past and future plans and how other academic institutions can plan and successfully execute capital projects in a post-pandemic landscape.
DBI Projects is proud to be providing a broad range of advisory and management services to The Cooper Union regarding its distinctive portfolio of real estate in the East Village. In addition to the Civic Projects Lab, this has included the meticulous atrium restoration at Morphosis designed 41 Cooper Square, managing the construction of a new state-of-the-art fabrication laboratory called the AACE Lab, and overseeing the inspection and subsequent restoration of the façade of the historic Foundation Building as required by the New York City Façade Inspection & Safety Program (FISP or Local Law 11).
