Hostos Community College Gives New Life to the former Bronx General Post Office
There are few buildings left in the City that embody the spirit of the New Deal-era quite like the Bronx General Post Office.
And after sitting vacant for over a decade, the historic property is buzzing with activity once again.
In September, Hostos Community College announced plans to transform the 200,000-sf building into a new life sciences facility, with state-of-the-art labs, classrooms, offices, and common spaces. The $70 million project includes $12.3 million in public funding from the City and CUNY.
It’s a thrilling project to be a part of, given the building’s landmarked interior and exterior, and the promise it represents for the surrounding community.
