Pace University Announces Naming Donation For 1 Pace Plaza East Performing Arts Project
DBI Projects is incredibly excited to see Pace University announce the Sands College of Performing Arts!
Pace initially revealed the overall project to the University community last December, detailing the holistic renovation taking place in the University’s flagship building. Once completed, the project will turn the original 1960s era structure into a modern performing and creative arts facility, including a 450-seat proscenium theater, a 200-seat flexible theater, and a 99-seat black box theater, creating a central gathering space for the Pace community and neighborhood at large. The project will also include renovations and upgrades to Maria’s Tower, the student residence located above the lower podium floors of the building.
Initially, DBI was engaged to establish and evaluate different options for the project. This included close coordination with stakeholders and University leadership, to define not only the programmatic goals of the project, but also sustainability and carbon reduction initiatives for the building. DBI is now leading the full project team through design, with construction expected to begin before the end of the year.
The 1 Pace Plaza East renovation is the culmination of a series of major capital projects that Pace has been undertaking over the past five years on its Lower Manhattan campus. DBI has worked very closely with the University’s Campus Planning department to establish a strategic phasing of these undertakings to complete the projects while not affecting continued operations of the University. To date, we are proud to have been a part of the University’s renovation of the west wing of 1 Pace Plaza, including upgrades to 80,000-sf of classroom, faculty, and offices spaces on the upper floors of the building, and the upcoming 15 Beekman project which is a new, ground-up mixed-use facility which is scheduled for completion later this year.
